Notes and harmonics
With Forest, the Earth Symphony collection continues its exploration of great natural landscapes. Mountain, Forest, River and Ocean inspire four distinct sonic worlds, designed to be listened to alone or in dialogue with one another.
Tuned to 440 Hz, the Koshi Forest chime has twelve rods, four of which are identically doubled at the same frequencies, also known as “sympathetic resonators.” This sonic architecture gives it greater depth and a rich, immersive resonance.
Comprising of the notes C# F# F# G# G# A A C# F# G# A C# the Forest melody corresponds to F# minor. Its twelve rods are tuned by hand, with reference to 440 Hz, until they find their right place within the harmonic ensemble.
The four Earth Symphony melodies were designed to form a natural harmony. Mountain, Forest, River and Ocean can respond freely to one another: each chime retains its own character while finding its place within the ensemble.
SOUND CHARACTER
Forest stands out with a deep and contemplative sound character. Its melody is inspired by the forest as a living space and may evoke mysterious voices as well as silence. Its twelve rods extend the resonance and create a dense sonic texture
