Notes and harmonics

With River, the Earth Symphony collection continues its journey through the great landscapes of Nature. Mountain, Forest, River and Ocean form four distinct sonic worlds, designed to be listened to alone or in dialogue.

The Koshi River chime is tuned to 440 Hz and has twelve rods, four of which are identically doubled at the same frequencies, also known as “sympathetic resonators.” This sonic architecture gives it greater depth and a rich, immersive resonance.

Comprising of the notes D# D# G# G# A# A# B B D# G# A# B the River melody corresponds to G# minor. Its twelve rods are tuned by hand, with reference to 440 Hz, until they find their right place within the harmonic ensemble.

The four Earth Symphony melodies were designed to weave a natural harmony. Mountain, Forest, River and Ocean can respond freely to one another: each chime retains its own character while contributing to the balance of the ensemble.

SOUND CHARACTER

River stands out with a fluid and positive sound character. Its melody may evoke movement and transformation. Its twelve rods extend the resonance and give the Koshi River chime a broad and flowing sound.
